The adventures in Tuscany continue: this time we went to Arezzo. The trip was on hold because it looked like it was going to rain, but in the end we decided to go anyway. The city is not a popular tourist destination yet, and although the streets were full of people, they were not tourists but mostly locals checking out the big antiques fair.
One reason there aren’t many tourists in Arezzo is that there are no famous sights. It’s just a cute little city with a pleasant atmosphere. Lately they have tried to lure in the tourists too. For example, as the Roberto Benigni film Life Is Beautiful was filmed in Arezzo they have set up signs to point out the locations of scenes from the movie.
My favorite spot in the city were the ruins of the old Medici fortress. It had just stopped raining so we were almost the only people there, and you could listen to birdsong while admiring the views.
